Our Brief History

Lagos State Public Service Staff Development Centre (PSSDC) is a Lagos State Government-funded multi-disciplinary institution. First of its kind in West Africa. Established 29 years ago through the State Government Edict No. 9 of 1994 to train, re-train and develop staff of the Public Service as well as serve as consultants to Government and the external public on Human Resource Development.
Before the establishment of the Centre, there were five training institutions in the State Public Service including:
The PP-TESCOM Training School, under the defunct Post Primary Teaching Service Commission
The Treasury Training School, under the defunct Ministry of Finance and Economic Development
The Staff Development Centre, under the defunct Office of Establishment, Pensions and Training
The Internal Revenue Training School, under the defunct Board of Internal Revenue
The defunct Local Government Staff Training School, under the Local Government Service Commission
On opening, the five existing training schools became the hub of the Training Directorate of PSSDC.
The establishment of PSSDC was therefore informed by the need to centrally coordinate the implementation of capacity building throughout the State Public Service.
The objective of central coordination was to create synergy and ensure that the vision, mission and the strategic thrust of the State Government.

PSSDC provides a wide range of quality learning and development interventions to public service officers and their counterparts in the private sector, to enhance performance and promote excellent service delivery. Our functions, as set out in the Lagos State Law No. 5 of August 2013 include the following:
