‘Continuous Assessment’ – A Dynamic Approach to Learning: DG

The Director-General of the Lagos State Public Service Staff Development Centre (PSSDC), Mr. Adekunmilola Adio-Moses, has emphasized that continuous assessment offers a dynamic approach to learning, providing ongoing feedback and a comprehensive picture of student progress. This assertion was made through his representative, Mr. Olusola Kolawole, at the opening ceremony of a three-day training for educators at the PSSDC in Magodo, Lagos. The training, titled “Continuous Assessment and Use of Tests in Schools,” aims to equip educators with the skills necessary to effectively implement continuous assessment within their classrooms.

Mr. Adio-Moses highlighted that this dynamic approach to learning surpasses traditional end-of-course exams. “Continuous assessment involves a variety of methods such as quizzes, projects, presentations, class participation, and other activities, offering a richer understanding of student knowledge, skills, and overall grasp of the subject matter,” he explained.

He assured the participants that the training would provide them with the skills to define and understand continuous assessment, discuss its importance within the Nigerian 9:3:4 educational system, and develop and conduct various tests and assessment tools. “This training will help you design diverse assessment techniques for seamless integration into classroom scenarios, administer tests effectively, and maintain accurate records of continuous assessment data,” Mr. Adio-Moses stated.

He advised the participants to actively engage in discussions and collaborate with their peers, emphasizing that knowledge thrives through shared learning. “This program signifies PSSDC’s commitment to equipping educators and advancing the quality of education in the state,” he noted.

The training sessions are designed to be interactive, encouraging participants to share their experiences and learn from each other. By the end of the program, educators will be better prepared to implement continuous assessment techniques, thereby enhancing the learning experience for their students and improving educational outcomes across the state.
