The Director-General of the Lagos State Public Service Staff Development Centre (PSSDC), Mr. Adekunmilola Toluwase Adio-Moses, has emphasized that financial accountability and transparency are fundamental pillars of good governance. He made this statement during a three-day intensive training program on “Public Sector Audit Process” for auditors, finance professionals, and public sector officials within grade levels 07-09 across the Lagos State Public Service. This initiative underscores the State’s commitment to strengthening financial accountability and transparency within government agencies.
Mr. Adio-Moses highlighted the critical role public sector audits play in meticulously evaluating financial management, operational efficiency, and adherence to regulations. He outlined the benefits participants would gain during the training, including valuable insights into risk assessment, audit planning techniques, internal controls, and effective communication of audit findings.
“An audit is not simply about finding fault but about identifying potential shortcomings and recommending improvements for the efficient and economical execution of plans and projects,” he stated. The program aims to bridge knowledge gaps, enhance skill sets, and promote best practices in Lagos State’s public sector auditing, ultimately strengthening the effectiveness of public sector audits and fostering a culture of good governance and accountability.
PSSDC has assembled experienced facilitators to guide participants through a comprehensive range of topics, including an overview of public sector auditing, audit planning and techniques, risk assessment, internal controls, audit evidence management, reporting and recommendations, and emerging trends and challenges.
Mr. Adio-Moses urged participants to engage actively through open discussions and questions to maximize the learning experience. “Your active participation will contribute to a more robust and effective public service sector within the state,” he concluded.
