Sanwo-Olu Pledges to Invest in Workers’ Training

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has committed to investing in the education and training of workers to enhance their skills and improve efficiency. Speaking at the Workers’ Day celebration held at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos, the Governor addressed a gathering of civil servants, reaffirming his administration’s dedication to worker empowerment and skill development.

“As we look towards the future, I want to reaffirm our commitment to building a more inclusive and equitable society in which the interest of workers receives the attention it deserves. We will continue to invest in education, training, and skills development to equip our workforce with the tools they need to succeed in their places of work because we recognize the vital role that workers play in driving progress and prosperity in our society,” Sanwo-Olu stated.

The Governor emphasized his administration’s commitment to creating a respectful and empowering environment for all workers. “We pledge to build a future where every worker is respected, empowered, and able to live with dignity and pride,” he added.

Sanwo-Olu also highlighted several interventions his government has made to alleviate the harsh economic conditions affecting Lagosians, particularly the workers. Among these are:

  • The implementation of a N35,000 wage award for public servants, effective from December 2023.
  • The re-implementation of a 25% basic salary incentive for core establishment agencies.
  • The introduction of worktime flexibility, allowing civil servants on Grade Levels 1-14 to work from home twice a week, and those on Grade Levels 15-17 to do so once a week, starting from February 28, 2024.

These measures aim to improve the welfare and working conditions of civil servants, reflecting the government’s commitment to their well-being and professional growth.

The Federal Government had declared Wednesday a work-free day to commemorate Workers’ Day, allowing workers across the country to celebrate their contributions and achievements.
